A recent and welcome addition to our source of beans has been from the guys at Cofinet. The Colombian brothers Carlos & Felipe who began Cofinet in 2015 are from a family who has been growing coffee in Colombia for over 80 years.
Cofinet now represent and support a large number of Colombian specialty coffee growers. Their main aim is to encourage direct trade between the Colombian farmers at origin and roasters like us here in Australia & New Zealand. The Cofinet boys take great pride in creating sustainable, ethical and long-term relationships.
Whilst in Melbourne earlier this year we had the opportunity to spend some time with the Cofinet team and taste their produce and hear some of their stories and how they are helping their farmers back home improve their game.
The growers they support including their family farm now specialise in alternative fermentation processes that are new in Colombia. At their farm and processing centre La Pradera; the most exotic varieties are processed achieving profiles that are unknown for Colombian coffees. Here at Artisti we started introducing a selection of the Colombian beans into our existing blends and discovering some pleasing results in the cup.
We are hoping to pay the guys a visit at their farm in Colombia in coming years to see first hand what they are doing and share more of their story with you.
