A Luxe New Look
The first thing you'll notice about the Luxe Brewer is its refined aesthetic. Breville has opted for a sophisticated matte finish, which comes in three standard colors: Truffle Black, Sea Salt White, and Brushed Stainless. Two exciting new colors have also been added to the lineup: Olive Tapenade (a dark green) and Damson Blue. This premium design gives the brewer a sleek, modern feel that would look great in any kitchen. The name "Luxe Brewer" is certainly well-earned.
Beyond the new finish, the brewer has maintained the same solid build quality as its predecessor.
NOTE: Currently Australia only has Black Truffle and Brushed Stainless colour options available.
Unboxing the Luxe Brewer: What's in the Box?
Inside the box, you'll find:
-
The Breville Luxe Brewer itself.
-
A user manual (don't throw this out!).
-
A thermal carafe.
-
A water hardness testing strip.
-
A coffee scoop (we recommend using a scale for more precise brewing).
-
Two filter baskets: a cone-shaped basket and a flat-bottomed basket.
The cone-shaped basket is ideal for single-origin coffees, often highlighting their fruity and floral notes. The flat-bottomed basket tends to produce a brew with more nutty and chocolatey flavors, making it a great choice for blends.
Key Upgrades and Features
While the Luxe Brewer maintains the high standards of the Precision Brewer, it introduces several key improvements that make it an even more desirable machine:
-
Removable Water Tank: A significant upgrade is the removable water canister. Unlike the original, this makes filling and cleaning the tank much easier. The tank itself has a ribbed interior, which adds to its unique design.
-
Water Hardness Setting: The machine comes with a water testing strip to help you set the water hardness. This is a crucial feature that allows the brewer to optimize its settings based on your water quality, ensuring a better-tasting cup of coffee.
-
Quiet Operation: If you're used to noisy coffee makers, you'll be pleased to know that the Luxe Brewer operates with a quiet hum. It won't wake up the whole house in the morning.
-
Brew Directly into a Mug: A handy new feature allows you to brew directly into your favorite mug. The machine can sense when the carafe is not in place and will adjust the brewing process to accommodate a single serving.
-
Thermal Carafe: The thermal carafe is designed to keep your coffee warm for hours without the need for a heating plate. This is important because a heating plate can continue to cook the coffee, potentially leading to a burnt or bitter taste over time.
-
Cold Brew Setting: This brewer features a dedicated cold brew setting that can create a cold brew concentrate in as little as 30 minutes. It uses the same thermal coil technology found in Breville's popular Cold Brew Jet, so you can expect a high-quality result.
-
SCA-Certified Brewing: The Luxe Brewer is built to meet the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA)'s rigorous standards for brewing. The default "Brew" setting is designed to produce a coffee with a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) of 1.15% to 1.35% and an extraction yield of 18% to 22%, ensuring a delicious and balanced cup every time.
-
Brew Timer: You can set a 24-hour timer to have your coffee prepped and ready to brew at a specific time. Imagine waking up to the smell of fresh coffee brewing automatically!
-
Intuitive Screen: The display on the Luxe Brewer is a major step up from its predecessor. It's clear and intuitive, making it easy to navigate through settings and customize your brew. After a brew is complete, it even shows a timer indicating how long it's been since the coffee was made.
Final Thoughts: Is the Luxe Brewer Worth It?
The Breville Luxe Brewer is more than just a cosmetic upgrade. It takes the trusted foundation of the Precision Brewer and adds a host of thoughtful features that improve both the brewing experience and the final cup of coffee. From the elegant matte finish to the removable water tank and the convenient brewing options, it’s clear that Breville has listened to user feedback and delivered a truly premium product.
Whether you're looking to serve quality batch brew in your cafe or simply want to elevate your coffee experience at home, the Luxe Brewer is an excellent choice.
